reassures Saudi community in Britain
London, 26th September 2001
Saudi ambassador to Britain Dr. Ghazi bin Abdulrahman Al
Gosaibi clarified today that there is no concern for the situations of Saudi
community in Britain.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the ambassador
said that this community comprises nearly 2000 Saudi citizens, most of them
students and trainees going about their daily lives normally. He noted that
there are 'baseless' exaggerations and rumors over their being in Britain.
Dr. Al Gosaibi explained that the cases of bothering Saudis
were individual, counted and simple. He noted that British security authority
detained three Saudis for investigation for hours; then released them after
discovering it was a case of mistaken identity.
Dr. Al Gosaibi stressed that there is now one Saudi citizen
who is under investigation by security authorities. He explained that the
embassy is following his case and had appointed a lawyer to help him. “We hope
that he will be released within two days”, he said.
