Economic Investment Forum
Houston, Feb 8th, 2001
The Investment Forum in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia resumed its deliberations here on Wednesday, with the participation of a number of economists and Saudi and American businessmen.

The first session of the Forum, chaired by Mohammed Al-Jasser, the Deputy Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), reviewed issues pertaining to the role that could be played by local banks in assisting foreign investors, in addition to issues pertaining to financing development projects in the Kingdom.

The second session of the Forum, chaired by Abdullah Ali Rida, the Chairman of the Arab-American Chamber of Commerce, reviewed issues pertaining to the privatization of the Saudi Telecommunications Company and investments in mobile telephones.

The major topic of the third session, held under the chairmanship of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Electricity for Industrial Affairs, Salih Al-Husseini, discussed plans for the development of the industrial cities of Jubail and Yanbu, as well as the role of the Saudi private sector and foreign investors in this respect, in addition to investment in mining in the Kingdom. At the fourth session, US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Wyche Fowler and Secretary General of the Council of the Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Osama Kurdi, emphasized the great attention being given by the Kingdom to the investment projects and the facilities being extended to the private sector, so as to enable positive contribution to the implementation of the development projects. They also shed light on the new regulations issued by the Kingdom for organization of the investment process, as well as the existing cooperation between Saudi businessmen and their American counterparts.
