Six new RVF cases
reported

|
Six new cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF)
were reported between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon,
according to a statement issued here today by the media department at
the Ministry of Health. No fatalities were reported, thanks to
Almighty God, while 15 cases recovered. According to the statement,
the total number of people infected since the appearance of RVF
reached 611. Of these, 443 had recovered. There had been 100 deaths.

Global
Energy Forum in Riyadh |

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral
Resources will host the 7th International Energy Forum in Riyadh,
from November 17 to 19.
More than 50 countries and
international organizations will participate in the Forum with Oil
and Energy Ministers and heads of international organizations
attending.
This Forum is one of the most
important international conferences in the energy sector since it
focuses on the relationship between producing and consuming
countries and offers a unique opportunity for the two sides to
conduct dialogue on various issues of mutual interest.
The participants will attend four
sessions and discuss various important issues including the oil
market, the future of energy internationally, sustainable
development and re-structuring of the oil industry and market.
The organizing committee has
prepared a program for the official delegations including visits to
Riyadh and al-Shaiba oilfield, as well as to the Holy Cities of
Makkah and Madinah to perform Umrah (the minor pilgrimage).

Mishaal bin Majed to open UK exhibition |

Prince Mishaal bin Majed bin Abdul
Aziz, governor of Jeddah, is scheduled to open later today the
Annual Exhibition of British Education and Training at al-Hamra
Sofitel Hotel here. The two-day Exhibition will showcase more than
20 British universities and institutes. The Exhibition will be open
for public from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

E-commerce
to be focus of Gulf Net Symposium

E-commerce will be the main focus of
the Gulf Internet 2000 Symposium and Exhibition, which will be
addressed by Commerce Minister Osama Faqeeh at the Eastern
Province's Chamber of Commerce and Industry on November 18.
The Symposium is entitled:
“E-commerce: Concepts and Policies” and it will discuss the
multibillion dollar electronic commerce phenomenon. Experts from the
local, national and international information technology (IT)
industry are expected to present papers at the Symposium which will
continue until November 22.
The keynote address will be
delivered by Dr Ibrahim S Mishari, Vice President of Information
Technology at Saudi Arabian Oil Company.

Shoura
Council approves regulation amendments

The Shoura Council approved the
amendments of the regulation for ownership of real estate in the Gulf
Cooperation Council countries in today's first session, headed by the
Chairman of the Council Sheikh Mohammad bin Ibrahim bin Jubair.
The amendments concern the number of
real estate units which can be owned. These should not exceed three
units in residential areas in any country, with the total permitted
area not to exceed 3,000 square meters. The owner should build the
units within 6 years starting from the date on which its ownership is
registered in his name. He cannot sell or grant ownership to another
party for four years from registration in his name, Secretary General
of the Council Dr Homood Albadr told Saudi Press Agency.
Dr Albadr added that in today's
second session, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Shoura Council Dr
Abdullah bin Omar Naseef, the Council continued discussion of the
general draft regulation on environment.
Dr Albadr said the Council decided to
postpone the discussion of the other issues on its agenda to a future
session. Part of today's session was attended by visiting Chairman of
the Palestinian National Council Saleem Alzaanoon and the accompanying
delegation.
