The fourth environment cleaning campaign organized by Al Safi Foods Est.
Riyadh, 1st March 2001

Governor Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd will inaugurate the fourth environment cleaning campaign organized by Al Safi Foods Est. in the Eastern Province on March 14.

Muhammad A. Al-Sarhan, Al Safiís managing director, has said that the initiative comes within the framework of the private sectorís contribution to ensure a clean environment and promote awareness among citizens as well as expatriate residents.

He said Al Safi, an affiliate of Al-Faisaliah Group, had organized three similar campaigns in the past. The company launched its first environmental campaign years back when 12,000 kg of garbage were collected. The representation of Saudis, who voluntarily participated in the drive, was 90 percent. Groups of people including university teachers, doctors and teachers joined the campaign.

Al Safi owns and operates the largest integrated dairy farm in the world. The farm spread over an area of 3,500 hectares has 24,000 heads of Holstein Friesian cattle and 12,000 milk cows. The farm produces some 350,000 liters of milk on a daily basis. Al Safi has a fleet of 450 refrigerated trucks and 18,000 outlets to distribute milk across the Kingdom.

The World Bank has estimated the Arab countries need $100 billion in investments over the next 10 years to ensure environmental safety.
