A record number of pilgrims have entered
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as of yesterday, to perform Hajj, Islam's
fifth pillar, this year, according to official figures made available
In a cable to Prince Naif bin Abdul
Aziz, Interior Minister and Chairman of Hajj Higher Committee, Prince
Muhammad bin Naif bin Abdul Aziz, Assistant Minister of Interior for
Security Affairs, said that a record 1,363,992 pilgrims safely entered
Saudi Arabia by air, land or sea, as of today. Of this number, 757,691
were males, representing 56 per cent, while 606,301 were females,
representing 44 per cent, the report said.
The report explained that 1,208,502
pilgrims came by air, 132,829 by land and 22,661 by sea.
