In a statement to the press, Minister of
Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi today said
that the 7th International Energy Forum, to be hosted by the Kingdom
tomorrow, aimed at formulating a base for dialogue to help the oil
producing and oil consuming parties to understand each other's
viewpoint. He pointed out that the oil producing countries would like
to reach understanding on a price range, not a fixed price. He
recalled that Opec has increased its production ceiling four times in
one year, adding that a fifth increase would not be appropriate at
this time.
He said any forthcoming Opec
production increase would be based on market studies and would depend
on whether such an increase would contribute to equilibrium in the
market.
