Ministry of Agriculture and Water pointed out today in its weekly
statement that up to Tuesday, 24 April 2001, the number of herds with
Foot-and-Mouth Disease in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia amounted to 58
herds of which 15 had been cleared of the disease.
The affected herds in Riyadh, Hail, Makkah, Qassim, Asir, Tabuk,
Aljawf and Eastern region are currently being treated. The total
number of infected animals was 1,845, of which 238 are cows and 1,607
sheep. The number of slaughtered animals stood at 291, including 33
heads of cow and 258 head of sheep.
