Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with other members of the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), will observe tomorrow the
International Day for Protection of Intellectual Property Rights in
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saleh Abdulrahman Al-Athel, the
President of King Abdul Aziz City for Sciences and Technology (KACST),
highlighted the great attention being given by the Saudi Government to
the issue of protection of the intellectual property rights in the
fields of patents, inventions, trade marks and authors' rights.
In a statement to the SPA, Dr Al-Athel said arrangements were
underway to ensure protection of intellectual rights in the fields of
industrial designs, the integrated circuit programs in addition to the
botanic classification: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia works along
with the other member states of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council
(GCC) to ensure protection of inventions at Gulf level,” he added.
Dr Al-Athel said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued the patents
system for invention more than 12 years ago and KACST had undertaken
the task of granting patents in conformity with the approved system.
He noted that KACST had been working to organize and protect the
rights of inventors.
