The Kingdom's imports in 1991 totaled SR108,881.3 million (U.S. $29,035 million). The top five exporting countries to the kingdom in 1991 were the U.S., in first place, with an importation value of SR22,003 million (U.S. $5,867.5 million), representing more than 20 percent of the Kingdom's total imports, followed by Japan SR14,915 million (U.S $3,977.3 million), England SR12,267 million (U.S. $3,271.2 million), Germany SR8,520 million (U.S. $2,272 million), and Switzerland SR5,282 million (U.S. $1,408.5 million).

During this period, the same exporting countries ranking is maintained, as in the previous two years, except that Italy replaced Switzerland as the fifth exporting country to the Kingdom. The U.S, however, held its leading position with an annual average exceeding 21 percent of the total Saudi imports.
