Al-Jireisi, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in
Riyadh, opened here on Monday a seminar on opportunities for commerce
between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The seminar's
inaugural ceremony was attended by Malaysian Minister of International
Trade and Industry Rufeida Aziz.
Speaking on the occasion, al-Jireisi said Malaysia which ranks 27th
in the list of commercial partners of Saudi Arabia is one of the
Kingdom’s major trade partners. He noted that the volume of
commercial exchange between the two countries jumped from SR 776
million in 1990 to SR 2,188 million in 1999.
Al-Jireisi said the volume of the Kingdom's imports from Malaysia
last year amounted to about SR 1,152 million.
For her part, Rufeida Aziz, the Malaysian Minister of Trade and
International Industry, delivered a lecture on the Saudi-Malaysian
business opportunities. She reiterated the keenness of the Malaysian
officials on enabling the Saudi authorities concerned to acquaint
themselves with the economic situation in Malaysia. She pointed out
that the Kingdom and Malaysia have common views on many of the
problems pertaining to the international trade and economy.
