RIYADH, 11 November PRINCE SALMAN BIN ABDULAZIZ, THE GOVERNOR OF RIYADH REGION, PATRONIZED HERE ON SATURDAY EVENING THE INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF A SEMINAR ON THE FUTURE OF CITIES.

SPEAKING ON THE OCCASION, MAYOR OF RIYADH DR ABDULAZIZ BIN MOHAMMED BIN EYAF AL-MIQRIN HIGHLIGHTED THE GREAT ATTENTION BEING GIVEN TO RIYADH BY THE SAUDI OFFICIALS.

FOR HIS PART, MINISTER OF MUNICIPAL AND RURAL AFFAIRS DR MOHAMMED BIN IBRAHIM AL-JARALLAH UNDERSCORED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SEMINAR AND SAID IT WILL PROVIDE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO GET ACQUAINTED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF THE OTHERS IN THE FIELD OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT

HE NOTED THAT THE MINISTRY OF MUNICIPAL AND RURAL AFFAIRS HAS TAKEN THE REQUIRED ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE MUNICIPAL SERVICES AND PREPARATION OF THE REQUIRED PLANS.

'WE ARE KEEN ON PREPARATION OF THE HUMAN CADRES THAT CAPABLE OF MATCHING DEVELOPMENTS OF THE 21ST CENTURY, HE SAID.

ON THE OTHER HAND, PRINCE SULTAN BIN SALMAN BIN ABDULAZIZ, THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE HIGHER TOURISM COMMISSION AND HEAD OF THE SEMINAR'S ORGANIZING COMMITTEE, HIGHLIGHTED THE DEVELOPMENT ACHIEVEMENTS ACCOMPLISHED BY THE KINGDOM UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES KING FAHD BIN ABDULAZIZ IN A SHORT SPAN OF TIME.

HE NOTED THAT THE MONARCH HAD SUCCESSFULLY LED THE COUNTRY ONTHE PATH OF PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVATION OF THE COUNTRY'S DEEP-ROOTED PRINCIPLES AND VALUES.

HE UNDERSCORED THE SIGNIFICANT ROLE THAT COULD BE PLAYED BY THE NON-GOVERNMENTAL SECTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITIES

MEANWHILE, PRINCE SULTAN BIN SALMAN UNDERLINED THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVATION OF THE NATIONAL HERITAGE.

ON THE OTHER HAND, PRINCE SALMAN BIN ABDULAZIZ UNDERLINED THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SEMINAR AND SAID IT COINCIDES WITH THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF KING FAHD'S ACCESSION TO THE THRONE.

HE LAUDED THE GREAT ATTENTION BEING GIVEN BY KING FAHD TO RIYADH.

CITING THE REMARKABLE DEVELOPMENT WITNESSED BY RIYADH IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, PRINCE SALMAN SAID THE NUMBER OF THE POPULATION OF THE CITY HAS JUMPED FROM ONLY SOME THOUSANDS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY TO ABOUT FOUR MILLION.

'THE SAUDI OFFICIALS HAVE BEEN GIVING A GREAT ATTENTION TO ALL CITIES OF THE KINGDOM, NOTABLE MAKKAH AND MADINAH, WHICH INCLUDE THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES, HE ADDED.--SPA


PRINCE SULTAN BIN SALMAN RECEIVES SYRIAN OFFICIALS

RIYADH, NOV 11, SPA -- PRINCE SULTAN BIN SALMAN BIN ABDULAZIZ, THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE HIGHER TOURISM COMMISSION, RECEIVED HERE ON SUNDAY VISITING SALIM AL-YASSIN, THE SYRIAN MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT, AS WELL AS SAFI ABU DAN AND NABIL UMRAN, THE GOVERNORS OF AL-LADHIQIYAH AND DER'AA RESPECTIVELY.

THEY EXCHANGED CORDIAL TALKS AND REVIEWED ISSUES OF MUTUAL CONCERN NOTABLY MEANS OF ACTIVATION OF TOURISM BETWEEN THE KINGDOM AND SYRIA.

ON THE OTHER HAND, PRINCE SULTAN BIN SALMAN RECEIVED HERE ON SUNDAY THE ROMANIAN AMBASSADOR TO THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA.
