Manama, 9th October 2001--
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the
International Labor Organization (ILO) signed an agreement here today to boost
cooperation between the two sides in the field of labor rights and standards.
Bahraini Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Abdulnabi Abdullah Alshua'lah
signed the agreement in his capacity as Chairman of the Current Session of the
Ministerial Council of Labor and Social Affairs of the GCC while visiting ILO
director Juan Somaya signed for the International Organization.
The agreement enhances existing cooperation and consultation between the two
organizations in determining the best ways to develop labor rights and
fundamental principles as well as implement international labor standards.
