Saudi-Yemeni Committee issues joint statement

Sanaa, 23rd October 2001, A joint statement issued here today said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Yemen take an identical stand on condemning all forms of terrorism. The two brotherly countries emphasized the importance of differentiating between terrorism and the rights of the Palestinian people in their legitimate resistance against the occupation of their territories.

The statement was issued by the joint Saudi-Yemeni Ministerial Committee charged with arranging the implementation of the borders treaty and its appendices, which concluded its sixth meeting here today under the co-chairmanship of Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Interior and Yemeni Interior Minister Major General, Dr Rashad Mohammed Alulaimi. The statement added that Prince Naif had met with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and had conveyed to him the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, and Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General.

The statement also pointed out that the two sides had reviewed the accomplishments of the previous meeting, and noted that they discussed all topics on the agenda. “After warm discussions on all relevant issues, and praise for the development of relations, the Interior Ministers of the two countries signed the minutes of the meeting", the statement added. The statement said that the Saudi side thanked the Yemenis for their hospitality, cordiality and understanding and issued an invitation for the next meeting to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The ministerial meeting was attended on the Saudi side by Dr Mitlab Al Nafeesh, Minister of State and Cabinet Member, Dr Abdulrahman Al Jammaz, Advisor of the Interior Minister, Mohammed Alshawi, the Supervisor of the Prince's Office, General Saleh bin Ali Almohayya, the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Talal bin Mohsen Alanqawi, the Director General of the Borders Guard, Engineer Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Ghazzawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and a member of the Technical Committee, Major General Za'al bin Sulaiman al-Balawi, the Commander of the Southern Region, Major General Saud bin Saleh al-Dawood, the Acting Director General of the Prince's office for Studies and Research, other officials, and the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Mirdas Al-Qahtani.

On the Yemeni side, the meeting was attended by Abdullah Ahmed Ghanem, the Minister of Legal Affairs, Major General Mohammed Ali Al-Qasemi, the Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qawsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Security Affairs, Brigadier Mohammed Ali Mohsen, the Commander of the Eastern Region, and other officials.
