Silicon
Graphics (SGI) today unveiled solutions that will help media companies
in the Middle East expand their businesses into what it calls Media
CommerceTM
– or transacting content over networks. Leveraging its strength in
content creation, SGI is the first company ever to bring to the region
real-world workflow solutions to create, manage and deliver content,
including print, film and Internet media, using networks such as
broadcast television, cable, satellite, virtual private networks (VPNs)
and the Internet.
SGI’s Media Commerce™
offerings are tailored for the Middle East’s burgeoning
telecommunications, Internet, application service provider (ASP), media,
publishing and entertainment sectors.
SGI is targeting media management and distribution organizations,
and will provide customizable, high-end solutions for media production,
media streaming, media management, and content delivery.
SGI has also created industry-specific integrated Internet
infrastructure solutions for internet services providers and ASPs.
“The Middle East’s
media industry is growing exponentially, with new production facilities
opening from the UAE to Egypt, new TV channels being launched, and
websites springing up daily. At
the same time, Telecoms, Internet, satellite and cable service providers
are increasing their capacity to deliver this wealth of content.
Where content, networking, and commerce collide is SGI’s Media Commerce™
strategy,” commented Jean-Philippe DeGrendele, SGI’s General Manager
for the Middle East and North Africa.
Media Commerce
in Action
Content producers around the world are embracing SGI’s Media Commerce™
solutions, including the production studios behind every Academy Award
finalist for special effects, all powered by SGI: the films Gladiator,
Hollow Man and The Perfect Storm. Internet
giants America Online, Excite@Home and
Travelocity are utilizing SGI’s Media Commerce™
solutions to generate, manage and distribute the content on their
websites.
Rob

Broadband industries across Europe, Middle East, and Africa, is visiting
the region to educate SGI’s clients about the benefits of Media
Commerce™.
“SGI’s
Media Commerce™

Middle East to open up new revenue streams. All types of media can be
found, communicated, repurposed, and delivered much more efficiently,
thanks to SGI’s ground-breaking technology. This in turn creates many
opportunities in the industry for completely new business models,”
said Morrison.
"SGI
will initially present the Media Commerce™
concept to its digital media client base in the Middle East, including
Qatari television station Al Jazira, Lebanese
satellite television provider Future TV and LBC channel, Middle East
Broadcast Corporation (MBC), Abu Dhabi Television, Egyptian Radio and
Television (ERTU), Saudi Television, and Bahrain Television,” said
Peter Gebara, SGI
Business Development Manager for the Middle East and North Africa.
“Other
potential Media Commerce™
adopters
are the Middle East production houses currently working with SGI,
including Elixir and Gemini in Egypt, Lebanon’s Hen Productions, and
Global Advertising Partners in the UAE,” he added.
“Finally,
SGI plans to educate the telecommunications
service providers, ISPs, and publishers throughout the Middle East about
the revenue potential that Media Commerce™
