Nearly 30 educational institutes
from the UAE will take part in the 13th Gulf Education and
Training Exhibition, scheduled to be held from April 24th to
27th, at the Dubai World Trade Center.
Education
in the UAE has been given great emphasis over the last few decades, with
the education budget for 2000 reaching Dhs. 5.26 billion (US$ 1.43
billion), according to a recent report and ranking 45th in
the United Nations Human Development Index for the year.
According
to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Ministry of
Education in the UAE has released a draft policy document outlining a
strategy for educational development in the UAE up to the year 2020
based on several five-year plans.
The
strategy aims to introduce the latest information technology at all
levels including a computer for every 10 students at kindergarten, every
five students at primary school, every two students at preparatory
school, and a computer for every student at secondary school. Also by
the year 2020, the emiratization of the teaching staff is scheduled to
reach 90 per cent.
“The
level of education in the UAE could be compared to leading international
standards, especially with the ambitious government plans of making
computers available to all students in all scholastic levels,” said
David Domoney, Managing Director of International Conferences and
Exhibitions, organizers of the exhibition.
He
also applauded the initiative set by His Highness General Sheikh
Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, UAE Minister of
Defense to enhance education in Dubai through the ‘IT Education’
program.
“It
is why shows such as the Gulf Education Exhibition is important to allow
major decision makers in the field of education become aware of the
latest state-of-the-art educational facilities worldwide,” added
Domoney.
Stafford
Associates which provides independent and lecture-supported post
graduate study with British Universities in the Middle East since 1993,
will be one of the UAE
institutions exhibiting at the show.
The
institute is based in Dubai, UAE, and offers courses to individuals and
organizations based in the Middle East and India in conjunction with the
University of Leicester, the University of Sheffield, the University of
Exeter and the University of Sunderland.
Magda
Marsh, from Stafford Associates said: “At present we have distance
learning students in nearly all countries in the Gulf Region. We provide
programs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Riyadh and there are plans to
expand the numbers of teaching centers within the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia and in other Middle East countries. Our resident teaching staff
who provide tuition on the MBA programs are accredited by the University
of Leicester.”
Through
Stafford Psychometrics, training and consultancy to the Human Resource
market by applying the principals of organizational psychology to the
workplace in order to enhance individual, and ultimately, corporate
performance.
Techno
Campus, located in Dubai will also be attending, and will be launching a
new course named YEM (Young
E-commerce Manager) which consists of several modules covering the
latest technologies like web design, software engineering, and
e-commerce, as well as launching a graphic design course.
The
Global Training Center, a training center within Emirates Bank Group,
will also be one of the exhibitors at the show. Their training programs
are attended by banks and commercial and corporate bodies in the UAE.
They organize conferences and seminars on issues that are relevant and
beneficial to the community. During
the show, they will be introducing themselves as a newly formed
independent company and will be producing their training catalogues for
the year 2001.
From
Oman, the Modern College of Business and Science, which is affiliated,
with the University of Missouri, St Louis (UMSL) will be present. In
addition other UAE institutes at the show will include The American
University in Dubai, The American University in Sharjah, Skyline College
and the Dubai Aviation College among many others.

the Exhibition:
The Exhibition will be opened daily
from 1000 - 1300h and 1700 - 2100h at Halls 5a & 5 at the Dubai
World Trade Centre and admission is free.
