FedEx
Express, the world’s largest express transportation company, has
announced the appointment of Jude Fonseka as its Managing Director of
Sales for the Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent and Sub-Sahara Africa
region. Based in Dubai, Fonseka will assume overall responsibility for
increasing revenue through the sales function for the region, leading a
team of six District Sales Managers to achieve their financial goals.
Jude
Fonseka first joined FedEx in 1989 as the Country Coordinator for
Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 1992, he moved to the UAE and was appointed
Senior Account Executive. His next promotion was in 1996 when he became
District Sales Manager, then Senior Sales Manager for India, Sri Lanka
and Bangladesh in 1997. In that same year, Fonseka moved to Mumbai to
set up the FedEx Sales operation in India, where he stayed until his
recent return to FedEx in the UAE.
Some
of the outstanding achievements in Fonseka’s 12-year career with FedEx
have been the successful expansion of FedEx’ operations into India,
including setting up a new sales team of over 50 professionals and
establishing FedEx’ freight sales in the region in 1989. Fonseka has
over 22 years of experience in the aviation industry having worked with Sri Lankan Airlines, Oman Aviation, Singapore Airlines and Flying
Tigers, which became a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation in 1989.
